Toy Story

Yoda loves a movie night.  Parker is gone a lot.  Mimi is hard to convince to sit still long enough for a whole movie.  But last Sunday the stars aligned and we all trickled in to the family room to watch Toy Story 2 after Yoda had started it up.

Surprisingly Parker would say quotes from the movie and sing along to the orchestral music quite often.  When I said I was impressed, Mimi said, "this movie to Parker is like Princess Bride is to you."

Just when Jesse's song was about to start I started to tear up--it gets me every time!

Yoda said, "mom, don't cry."

Me, "too late!"

Mimi does not care for me being too sentimental about things, but here she is dressed up like Jesse back in 2008

Mimi, "I'm Jessie the yodeling cowgirl doll!"

Mimi's Masterpiece Re-creatinon

For a young woman's-zoom activity, someone came up with this fun idea.  Mimi has seen a painted re-creation of Picasso's Ironing Woman every day of her life, so it came to her mind when the assignment was given.

Mimi's dress

I'm working on finishing the family room, but it's too messy for photos just yet... fingers crossed for next Monday!

I think she gets compliments or jokes every time she wears this dress, it's fun and cute.
This day was especially fun since she paired the dress with a bright orange jacket.

One day Yoda seemed a little off, so he curled up on the couch and fell asleep.  This does NOT happen for my kiddos unless they are totally sick.  I worried, but he woke up much happier.
Then a few days later the same thing happened to Mimi, so weird!  But again, no sickness, just super tired from life's events I guess.

It was all too cute!

School Stuff

Yoda ran off the bus with a large roll of yellow paper sticking out if his backpack.
Me, "What's that?"
Yoda, "It's my body!"
Me, "What?"
Yoda, "I'll show you...
...see, the kidneys are in the back."

Mimi's April book report was Biography, with the suggestion that the student choose a person who is from Ohio and not alive anymore.  So we looked at Wikipedia and found a list.  I made an additional suggestion that Mimi pick someone who is also female.  (Although I've loved learning about the Wright brothers, and 8 presidents from Ohio, I felt we could branch out beyond the obvious.)

We narrowed it down to three ladies but settled on Victoria Woodhull.  I'd never heard of her, but according to one of her biographers, she was well known in her day and pretty much forgotten until recently.  She was also the first woman to run for president, before women even got the vote!

The teachers made an additional suggestion that the students could dress up like their person.  Mimi assured me that she did not want to dress up.  But the night before her presentation she changed her mind and totally assumed I would love taking care of a costume.  We searched our brains for anyone who had Victorian looking dress, but we were stumped!  So I set off for Goodwill and found this little number that worked well enough.  Her hair was a little tricky.  Neither Mimi, nor I like to do her hair, and we struggled with this little up-do.  But she ended up being pretty proud of it. Go, Mimi!

How's Parker?  I'd like to know that too!

He's gone so much with school, I miss him at home.  He did try his hand at stage crew this weekend for the school's talent show.  And although it might have been fun for some people, this parent had NO FUN AT ALL!  My child was happy to be a part of things, but I didn't get to see him in action, really, because he was backstage.

So here's a photo of my giant child in his little brother's Kindergarten classroom a few weeks ago...

What Mimi wore

While she is still a brownie I wanted to get a photo of her in one of her brownie shirts, she's quickly outgrowing it!
And here she was getting ready for the 3rd grade field trip to the old village in town (you would love it, Chris) she's wearing the bonnet that Grandma Shauna made for her.

My mom made me a bonnet, too!
She was pretty darn excited for that Dilly bar when the whole thing was over!

Pink

While driving and listening to the radio:
Yoda, "Who is singing?"
Me, "a singer named Pink"
Yoda, confused, "but that's a color?!"

The Girl Scouts had a Father/Daughter Dance...
 Mimi, "I'm pretty in *Pink*!"

Boots

Mimi fell in love with cowboy boots on our last trip to Utah, so Granddad gifted her a pair of boots when we got back to Ohio...

We walked in the store and she knew just what she wanted!

At church today

Yoda saw a baby who was VERY young, quiet, still and dressed in a fancy dress.
"Is that a real baby ???!"
*laughter all around*

__________

When Yoda took a piece of bread that had a bit of crust on it, he tried to put it back.  I asked him to just take the piece he touched.
"but I don't like the RUSTY kind..."

 Parker turned 11!
Just as a side note, Parker has like 10 teeth growing in right now...TEN!  All at once.  I'm not sure how he even chews his food!
He wanted cupcakes, which was awesome since we now have this perfect cupcake stand--thanks Sonya!
Mimi picked out this outfit, I loved the purple tights with the pink shoes...I love the rounded collar shirt too :)

Stay Warm....

First Day / Last Day 2012-2013

School's out and the summer has begun...

Yoda on his first day...

And on the last day, running to school because he's so excited!

After the last day, there was a picnic
and puddles.

Mimi on the first day of school

 Parker on the first day...

Mimi just after the first day...

Parker just after the first day...

And Mimi and Parker on the last day of school...

I helped out at Mimi's first-grade-last-day-party.  Or at least I tried to help.  Yoda was not very cooperative.  Mimi's teacher retired so I helped to put together a gift basket for him so I really wanted to be there to hand it to him.  Sadly I forgot to take a photo, but it was awesome.  There was a chocolate motorcycle involved...

Parker with a relieved smile, goodbye 4th grade.  I forgot to get a photo of Parker with his teacher... oops!

And here's a What Mimi wore to church bonus.  Recognize that purse, Sonya?

Yoda Yells

After I brushed the snow off of the car, Yoda yelled:"Did you paint the car?!"

Talking about the radio, Yoda yelled:"Can you turn it off and talk to me about sleep?"

After stubbing his toe, Yoda yelled:"I got blood over the place!"

_____________

I follow a blog where the woman occasionally shows what she wore to church or otherwise.  She has cute clothes, I do not, but Mimi does.  So occasionally I'm going to show off her super-cute clothes in this new segment called...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Mimi keeping it real with the crazy outfits.  And yes, she went to school this way.  Let the 6th graders laugh, she won't hear me telling her to change:)
Who has two thumbs and loves this giant nativity scene?  This baby!
