A cupcake poem for Sonya's birthday
Eight little cupcakes, sitting in a tin
along came Yoda and then there were sev-en!
Seven little cupcakes, not from a mix
along came Mimi and then there were six!
Six little cupcakes, with honey from a hive
along came Parker and then there were five!
Five little cupcakes, not on the floor
along came Sonya and then there were four!
Four little cupcakes, decorated like bee
along came Josh and then there were three!
Three little cupcakes, on a plate of blue
along came Rebekah and then there were two!
Two little cupcakes -- not a ton
along came Jill and then there was one!
One little cupcake, waiting for a hero
along came Daddy and then there were zero!
Happy birthday!
And a little cupcake dance as well! This girl loves her some cupcakes!
(Sorry for the squeaky camera...)

More of Poetry Month
Check it out here
He's a super fun poet. It's one the reasons I fell for him 18 years ago. Yup, 18 years this fall.
He said there are lots of other poems on this blog that are good too, his favorite is the one about the apple.
Enjoy and Happy Spring!

Shopping and Shel Silverstein
Parker: "Pretty snazzy!"
*Later*
Parker putting on his new shoes: "These are snazzy!"
__________
Mimi, while looking over my shoulder at a scribbled-note that I'm writing: "How can Dad read it? That's not read-ish!"
__________
Greg, describing the new pj's that he bought for Yoda: "Well, he liked them so much that when he started licking them, I decided we better buy them."
__________
While listening to an NPR story (found here) about Shel Silverstein, Yoda was so excited to listen to the poems, he pulled up a chair to get closer to the radio. (The radio is on the counter and not bolted to the underside of the cabinet because of the continuing kitchen reno--more on that soon.)

Exam Haiku
My calculator
Guides me thought the exam and
Is my only friend
I leave the buttons
Mashed up and down to find the
Lettered answer choice
My earplugs have not
Nor will they be approved by
The supervisor
Flickering fluorescently
Casting quick shadows
At last I take this
Exam but before I am finished
I must return it
Forgotten pencil
Prohibits me from pure joy
Oh borrowed pencil
Lost, 24 and
American Idol were
Exam casualties
The first weekend since
February that I won’t
Spend with my I.T.
The real question is
How did I study so much
And know so little
More anxiety
Now I learn that caffeine is
A diuretic
Upon my final
Review the answer sheet looks
Like a Christmas tree
If I fail this test
Again my life will continue in
A holding pattern
Black-Scholes stained my soul
Dirty measure theory tricks
I cannot forgive
When my life starts up
Again in two and half
Hours the sun will shine
My red swivel chair
Tweaks my spine representing
My site of failure
My neighbors coughing
His pencil chewing his lack
Of grooming sicken
The silence in here
Is not that quiet given
The street construction
Which of the first five
Letters will I choose for this
Impossible crap
