The best part of 1st grade

Indiana's reading like a pro and loves reading to Mimi. When he started this year I had small panic attacks thinking about my boy being gone all day, but he's learning so much it's shocking at times. 1st grade has had a few bumps along the road so far, including the loss of a lunch box, miss communications with his teacher, and some kid attacking Indiana during recess a few different times and then Indiana getting him into mount. (btw, that video was of the first time Indiana ever got anyone in mount at jujitsu and he probably shouldn't have cheered like that.)

____________

Me:"would you like some water?"
Indiana:"Yes, please"
Mimi, talking like a dog:"ruff, ruff"
Indiana:"she wants her water in a bowl"
The straws were my idea, she was just wasn't getting much water in her mouth, mostly all over the fort.

Getting some practice for the real thing...

The hospitals canceled all sibling preperation classes because of the flu, so I got a bunch of books and videos trying to get Mimi ok with some of the spotlight not being on her.
Names thought up by the kiddos and my sisters:
Ticklish, Lilly, Baby, PonyBoy (from the Outsiders), Vera or Sean (named after my mom-Shauna or my dad-Vereald) Can you remember any of the other ones? Lately Indiana is set on Max

With 3 weeks away we have a few names in mind, but we're still open for suggestions...not that I will agree to any here, I'll use a nickname, of course.

Jack

Indiana:"My teacher's baby's name is Jack"
Me:"Is it short for something like Jackson?"
Indiana:"No, he's just Jack"
Anybody else remember? Well, we busted up laughing.
_____________

Mimi:"Can I have some *inaudible*?"
Me:"What? Do you want some privacy?"
Mimi:"No, I want some 'go away' from my bath."

the playoffs

Greg started growing out his beard when he started studying for this fall's exam, with a plan to shave it off when the exam was over.
Poor sleep deprived Greg. He's been studying SO MUCH!
"Your beard is falling OFF!"
"He slurped off his beard!"
Happy post-exam smile

The only problem with non-comercial children's TV

Me:"What do you want for Christmas?"
Mimi:"A super-beautiful horsey with a jet-pack!"
So I've got them studying up for their Christmas lists.

denial

Indiana:"The batteries are no longer in charge!"

Indiana, last night at bedtime:"I'm not sleepy, I don't want to go to bed"
Later while writing in his journal:"I can't think of anymore, I'm too tired...wait, my brain is tired but my body is awake!" *eyes stretched to be wide open*

Mimi, noticing the moon still in the sky while we walked to school:"It's still moony!"

Yuck

1-one scarf
2-one mask that Indiana made for school
3-one pencil and one book of Ken Ken
4-one story book
5-one blanket
6-two worried looks

Those are the things that Indiana and Mimi brought to me as I lay on the couch most of the day yesterday with food poisoning. Thanks to Greg and his mom for taking the kiddos so I could rest!

Mimi:"Um, dad, you pick out my bedtime stories, I'm gonna check on mom."
Indiana:"I'm going to bring down this toy for mom to play with"
Mimi:"I'm gonna set this timer, when it beeps, you'll feel better

Trick Or Treat For Real

So to round out the Halloween week Indiana and Mimi were invited to trick or treat with Greg's sister. They scheduled their trick or treating on actual Halloween. We have so much candy, I'm not sure what to do!

around the house

Indiana, while serving himself a popsicle:"The freezer just squeezed my little head"
_________

After church Greg loads the kiddos in the car and I meet them out there. Most Sundays they pretend to be asleep and then while I pretend to be worried about them all falling asleep they yell:"Surprise!"

This Sunday Mimi grew a little tired of this game:"I don't want to 'prize', I just want to drive home."
_________

Me, as I passed out cups of water:"Here is one water for the lady, and one for the gentleman"
Mimi and Indiana*blank stares*
Indiana:"I'm a gentleman?"
Mimi:"Yup! You are a gentleman and I'm girly-girl, wait, what I am?"
